NBI Clearance Renewal: Skip the Branch If You Qualify

If your last NBI clearance was issued after 16 October 2016, you may never need to set foot in a branch again. NBI runs an online renewal that ends either at a pick-up window on U.N. Avenue or at your front door.

Are you eligible?

Two NBI pages express the cut-off differently and both were read on 31 August 2026. The Citizen’s Charter Handbook defines the online renewal service as being for applicants with a clearance issued after 16 October 2016. The how-to-apply page frames the same option as being open to anyone with a clearance issued after 2014 and no changes to their personal details. The mailed-clearance page uses 2014 as well, for the mail route specifically. This guide reports all three rather than choosing one; if your clearance falls in the 2014-to-2016 gap, ask NBI which applies.

What it costs

Delivery outside NCR costs ₱350.00, which is ₱190.00 more than the entire clearance transaction. Whether that is worth it depends on how far you are from U.N. Avenue, because pick-up is available only there on this route.

The steps

The only requirement on the charter’s checklist is a paid Reference Number from an authorised electronic payment channel. There is no ID list, no biometrics appointment and no branch slot to book, because your biometrics are already on file from the previous clearance.

Delivery schedule

NBI states this excludes holidays, Saturdays and Sundays. Adding the 24-hour readiness check, a delivery outside NCR realistically lands 8 to 11 working days after payment, which is arithmetic on the published figures rather than an NBI statement.

Against that, a pick-up is available the day after the 24-hour check, and takes 38 seconds at the window.

Renewing from abroad

The online renewal route ends at a Philippine address. From overseas, NBI runs the mailed clearance route instead, and the renewal rules sit inside it.

The representative route works differently on payment: the representative registers at clearance.nbi.gov.ph, selects NBI Main Clearance Center as the preferred site, pays through a channel such as Bayad Center, secures the reference number, then goes to the Mailed Clearance Section.

On receipt, check the certificate for the embossed NBI dry-seal and affix your right thumbmark in the space provided.

If a HIT comes back

Renewal does not exempt you from the HIT check. If your name matches or resembles someone with a record, the charter’s handling is the same as a new application: you return on a scheduled date 8 working days later, and a referral to the Quality Control Section adds an interview timed at 10 minutes 20 seconds. There is no extra payment.
