Where these figures come from

About these figures: the numbers below come from SSS's official published sources: Social Security System | Citizen's Charter 2026 (1st Edition) (https://www.sss.gov.ph/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026-SSS-Citizens-Charter-1st-Edition-External-Services.pdf, retrieved 2026-08-31); Social Security System | Register to My.SSS (https://www.sss.gov.ph/register-to-mysss/, retrieved 2026-08-31). Agencies change fees and rates without notice, so confirm with SSS before you rely on them. Last verified: 2026-08-31.

Two things get confused constantly: the SS number and the My.SSS account. They are separate registrations with separate requirements, and you need the first before you can have the second.

Getting the SS number

SSS runs two versions of the online application, and the difference is whether you upload documents.

Route What it produces Total processing time
Online application with uploading of supporting documents A number tagged Permanent once a Member Service Representative approves it, otherwise Temporary 2 working days and 10 minutes
Online application without uploading of supporting documents A number with Temporary status The two online steps only

The steps, as SSS publishes them:

  1. Visit www.sss.gov.ph, go to the “Apply for an SS number online” box and click Start.
  2. Supply the needed information, tick “I’m not a robot” and “I certify that above information are true and correct”, then click Submit.
  3. Access the continuation link sent to your email address.
  4. Supply everything from Basic Information through to Beneficiaries Information, review and correct the form, provide a preferred User ID for your My.SSS account, enter your height and weight, then click Generate SS Number.
  5. Upload the required documents for the tagging of the SS number. Member Service Representatives compare the uploaded documents against your Personal Record, form E-1, and tag the number Permanent or Temporary.

What counts as proof of identity

The charter’s checklist is a ladder: use the top rung if you have it.

Rung What SSS accepts
1 PSA birth certificate, original or certified true copy, plus a photocopy
2 In its absence: a baptismal certificate or equivalent, or a government-issued ID, being an LTO driver’s licence, a DFA passport, a PhilSys ID or ePhilID, a PRC card, an SSS digitised ID, a seaman’s book, or a UMID card
3 In the absence of those: any 2 of a long list of alternative documents, both with the correct name and at least one with the date of birth

That third rung is unusually generous. It includes a GSIS card, an ATM card bearing the cardholder’s name, a bank passbook, a child’s birth or baptismal certificate, a company ID, a credit card, a health or medical card, a Pag-IBIG member’s data form or transaction card, a barangay, municipal or city ID, a life insurance policy, a marriage certificate, an NBI clearance, an OWWA card, a PhilHealth ID or member data record, a police clearance, a postal ID, a school ID, a senior citizen card, an LTO student permit, a TIN card, a transcript of records, and a voter’s ID or certificate of registration.

Registering the My.SSS account

The account registration needs an SS number, at least 1 posted contribution and a date of coverage. Then you pick one of seven registration preferences, and each has its own condition.

# Registration preference The condition attached
1 Savings account number, Citibank cash card, UBP Quick Card, or UMID-ATM savings account number Must be registered with SSS
2 UMID card Must have been activated at an SSS branch
3 Employer or household ID -
4 Payment Reference Number Must have been paid
5 Date of loan Must be a loan with an outstanding balance, not one already fully paid
6 Transaction number on the Personal Record or UMID application, forms E-1 or E-6 For those who applied for an SS number from 10 December 2020 onwards
7 Check number of any monthly pension For a retiree or disability pensioner receiving benefits by check

The steps: visit the SSS website, click Login to My.SSS, select Create Now and choose Member. Choose your registration preference. Fill out the Account Information and Personal Information sections, accept the Terms of Service, and click Create Account.

All Account Information fields must be completed. In Personal Information only three are mandatory: last name, given name and birth date. Mailing address fields are optional.

SSS then validates the registered email address and sends a registration link; once you access it you can log in. The charter times this step at 10 minutes where the mobile number and email address both match the SSS database, and 2 minutes where the mobile number does not match but the email does.

What the account is actually for

Registration is the gate to nearly everything SSS has moved online.

What you can do Where it is covered
Generate a Payment Reference Number and pay contributions How to pay your SSS contribution
Apply for a salary loan SSS salary loan guide
File a sickness benefit application SSS sickness benefit guide
File a maternity notification and application SSS maternity benefit guide
File a retirement claim SSS retirement pension guide
Apply for a MySSS Card UMID and MySSS Card guide
Enrol a disbursement account through the DAEM Required before any loan or benefit is released

That last row is worth planning for. Every loan and benefit SSS pays out now requires an active disbursement account enrolled through the Disbursement Account Enrollment Module, and the enrolment lives inside My.SSS.

What the account is worth in figures

Every entitlement below is gated on the account plus a contribution count, so registering early and paying steadily are the same project.

Programme What the record must show What it pays or lends
Sickness benefit 3 months of contributions in the 12-month period before the semester, and 4 days of confinement 90% of the average daily salary credit, capped at 120 days a year and 240 days per illness
Maternity benefit 3 months of contributions in the same 12-month window 100% of the average daily salary credit for 105 days, 120 days for a solo parent, or 60 days for miscarriage
Salary loan 36 posted contributions for a one-month loan, 72 for two, with 6 in the last 12 months 1 or 2 months of the average of your 12 latest salary credits at 8% a year over 24 amortisations
Calamity loan 36 posted contributions, 6 in the last 12 months 1 month of the same average at 7% a year
Retirement pension 120 monthly contributions before the semester of retirement The highest of three formulas, plus ₱1,000 a month and a 13th month pension

At the ₱20,000 salary credit those numbers become concrete: a sickness benefit of ₱600.00 a day, a maternity benefit of ₱666.67 a day, a two-month salary loan of ₱40,000, and a pension of ₱8,300 a month at 20 credited years rising to ₱16,300 at 40. The SSS contribution table shows what that salary credit costs each month.

What this page does not cover

SSS does not publish, in the sources read for this page, the processing time for converting a Temporary SS number to Permanent after the initial 2 working days, the rules for correcting a name or birth date on an existing record, or the employer-side My.SSS registration, which is a separate charter service. None of those are stated here. Requesting cancellation of multiple SS numbers is also a separate service.

How to pay your SSS contribution covers the PRN and the payment channels you will need once the account exists. The SSS contribution table covers what to pay, and SSS employer registration covers the R-1 route for businesses.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get an SS number online?
Go to sss.gov.ph, open the 'Apply for an SS number online' box and click Start. Supply the information, tick 'I'm not a robot' and the certification, and submit. Access the continuation link sent to your email, fill in everything from Basic Information to Beneficiaries Information, provide a preferred User ID, enter your height and weight, then click Generate SS Number.
How long does it take, and what does it cost?
With supporting documents uploaded, the SSS Citizen's Charter records a total of 2 working days and 10 minutes. Without uploading documents there is no waiting step. Both carry a Total Standard Fee of None, and the facility runs 24/7.
What is the difference between a Temporary and a Permanent SS number?
If you upload supporting documents, a Member Service Representative reviews them and tags the number Permanent once approved, otherwise Temporary. Applying without uploading documents produces a number with Temporary status.
What documents do I need?
A PSA birth certificate, original or certified true copy plus a photocopy. In its absence, a baptismal certificate or a government-issued ID such as an LTO driver's licence, DFA passport, PhilSys ID or ePhilID, PRC card, SSS digitised ID, seaman's book or UMID card. If none of those, any two alternative documents both with the correct name and at least one with the date of birth.
Is a My.SSS account the same as an SS number?
No. The SS number identifies you to SSS. The My.SSS account is the online portal login. Registering the account needs an SS number, at least one posted contribution, and a date of coverage.
What are the registration preferences for My.SSS?
Seven: a savings account number, Citibank cash card, UBP Quick Card or UMID-ATM savings account registered with SSS; an activated UMID card; an employer or household ID; a paid Payment Reference Number; a date of loan with an outstanding balance; a transaction number from a UMID or Personal Record application, for SS numbers issued from 10 December 2020 onwards; or a check number from any monthly pension.
Which fields are mandatory?
In the Personal Information section, last name, given name and birth date. All fields in the Account Information section must be completed. Mailing address fields are optional.
What happens after I submit?
SSS validates the email address and sends a registration link. Once you access it you can log in to your My.SSS account. The charter records this step at 10 minutes where the mobile number and email match SSS records, and 2 minutes where only the email matches.
