About these figures: the numbers below come from SSS's official published sources: Social Security System | Disability Benefit (https://www.sss.gov.ph/disability-benefit/, retrieved 2026-08-31); Social Security System | Citizen's Charter 2026 (1st Edition, External Services) (https://www.sss.gov.ph/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/2026-SSS-Citizens-Charter-1st-Edition-External-Services.pdf, retrieved 2026-08-31); Social Security System | SSS Contribution Table (https://www.sss.gov.ph/sss-contribution-table/, retrieved 2026-08-31). SSS adopts the World Health Organization’s definition of disability: any restriction or lack of ability to perform an activity in the manner or within the range considered normal for a human being. The benefit that follows is either a pension or a lump sum, and the dividing line is 36 contributions.

Which one you get

Type Condition
Monthly pension At least 36 monthly contributions paid before the semester of disability
Lump sum Fewer than 36 monthly contributions
Lump sum Also where the benefit is assessed as payable for less than 12 months

To qualify at all, a member needs at least 1 monthly contribution paid before the semester of contingency.

The monthly pension

The amount is based on the number of paid contributions, the monthly salary credit, and years of membership before the semester of contingency. SSS publishes the floors:

Credited years of service Minimum monthly pension
Less than 10 CYS ₱1,000
At least 10 CYS ₱1,200
At least 20 CYS ₱2,400

The MSC that feeds those calculations runs ₱5,000 to ₱35,000 under the current schedule, with benefits computed only up to ₱20,000. The SSS contribution table covers it.

The lump sum, with SSS’s own worked example

The lump sum is the higher of:

# Formula
1 Monthly pension × number of monthly contributions before the semester of contingency × percentage of disability
2 Monthly pension × 12 × percentage of disability

SSS’s published example: a member whose degree of disability is 20% of the body, with 24 months of contributions before the semester of contingency.

Calculation Result
₱1,000 × 24 × 20% ₱4,800
₱1,000 × 12 × 20% ₱2,400
Benefit paid ₱4,800, the higher of the two

What counts as a disability

Permanent partial

Complete and permanent loss or use of any of the following:

# Body part # Body part
1 One thumb 9 One foot
2 One index finger 10 One leg
3 One middle finger 11 One ear
4 One ring finger 12 Both ears
5 One little finger 13 Hearing of one ear
6 One big toe 14 Hearing of both ears
7 One hand 15 Sight of one eye
8 One arm

Removal of the following female generative organs also counts, provided the member was below 45 years old at the time of the operation, per SSC Resolution 1433: loss of uterus alone; uterus and one ovary; uterus and both ovaries; one ovary; both ovaries.

Permanent total

# Condition
1 Complete loss of sight of both eyes
2 Loss of two limbs at or above the ankles or wrists
3 Permanent complete paralysis of two limbs
4 Brain injury resulting in incurable imbecility or insanity
5 Such cases as determined and approved by the SSS

The extras

Benefit Amount Since
Additional benefit for disability pensioners ₱1,000 January 2017
Supplemental disability allowance ₱500 -
Dependent’s pension, per dependent child 10% of the member’s monthly pension, or ₱250, whichever is higher -
On death of a permanent total disability pensioner Primary beneficiaries as of the date of disability receive 100 percent of the monthly pension, and dependents the dependent’s pension -

So a pensioner at the ₱1,000 floor with the additional benefit and the supplemental allowance receives ₱2,500 a month, and ₱2,750 with one dependent child at the ₱250 floor. Those totals are arithmetic on SSS’s published lines.

What this page does not cover

SSS does not publish, on the pages read for this guide, the schedule of disability percentages by body part, the medical evaluation criteria, the appeal route for a denied claim, the prescriptive period for filing, or the conditions under which a partial disability pension converts to total. None of those are stated here.

The SSS sickness benefit guide covers the short-term counterpart. The retirement pension guide and the death and funeral benefit guide cover the other final benefits.

Frequently asked questions

Who qualifies for the SSS disability benefit?
A member who suffers partial or permanent total disability with at least 1 monthly contribution paid to the SSS before the semester of contingency may qualify. A monthly pension needs at least 36 monthly contributions before the semester of disability.
How much is the monthly pension?
It is based on the member's number of paid contributions, monthly salary credit and years of membership before the semester of contingency. The published minimums are ₱1,000 for members with less than 10 credited years of service, ₱1,200 with at least 10 CYS and ₱2,400 with at least 20 CYS.
How is the lump sum computed?
The higher of two calculations: the monthly pension multiplied by the number of monthly contributions before the semester of contingency multiplied by the percentage of disability; or the monthly pension multiplied by 12 multiplied by that percentage. SSS's own example uses ₱1,000 × 24 × 20% = ₱4,800 against ₱1,000 × 12 × 20% = ₱2,400, and pays ₱4,800.
When is the benefit paid as a lump sum instead of a pension?
Where the member has not met the required 36 monthly contributions, and also where the disability benefit is assessed as payable for less than 12 months.
What counts as a permanent partial disability?
Complete and permanent loss or use of one thumb, index, middle, ring or little finger, one big toe, one hand, arm, foot, leg or ear, both ears, hearing in one or both ears, or sight of one eye. Removal of certain female generative organs also counts, provided the member was below 45 years old at the time of the operation, per SSC Resolution 1433.
What counts as a permanent total disability?
Complete loss of sight of both eyes, loss of two limbs at or above the ankles or wrists, permanent complete paralysis of two limbs, brain injury resulting in incurable imbecility or insanity, and such other cases as determined and approved by the SSS.
Are there additional benefits?
Yes. A ₱1,000 additional benefit starting January 2017, on top of the ₱500 supplemental disability allowance. Dependent children conceived or legally adopted before the date of contingency of a total disability pensioner each receive 10% of the member's monthly pension or ₱250, whichever is higher.
How long does the claim take?
The SSS Citizen's Charter publishes 15 working days for a disability benefit claim application, whether filed personally, through a representative or through My.SSS, at no fee. Crediting of the payment is made within 5 to 7 banking days from settlement of the claim.
